Shopping at Heathrow Airport ranges from duty-free beauty and fragrance to designer fashion, electronics, travel essentials, books and British gifts. Terminals 2, 3, 4 and 5 all have shops, but the brands and locations available depend on your terminal and whether you are before or after security.

You can also reserve selected products before travelling and collect them at the airport, which can save time if you already know what you want.

This guide explains what you can buy at Heathrow, how duty-free shopping works, where to shop in each terminal and how to leave enough time to reach your gate. For wider airport planning, see our complete Heathrow Airport guide.

Heathrow Airport Shopping at a Glance

Heathrow has shopping across all four active passenger terminals. World Duty Free, WHSmith, Harrods and InMotion are among the retailers with a presence across T2, T3, T4 and T5. Other shops are available only in certain terminals.

Shopping Need	What You Can Find at Heathrow

The exact selection can change, so check your terminal before deciding where to shop. Heathrow maintains a live Shops A-Z directory for current stores and locations.

How Does Duty-Free Shopping at Heathrow Work?

Heathrow has World Duty Free stores across Terminals 2, 3, 4 and 5. Current product ranges include fragrance, cosmetics, confectionery, spirits, wine, fashion accessories and other travel-retail products.

However, “duty free” does not mean that everything sold at Heathrow is automatically free from all UK taxes.

The VAT Retail Export Scheme was withdrawn in Great Britain at the end of 2020. HMRC confirms that duty-free shops selling excise goods such as alcohol and tobacco remain in operation, while general tax-free shopping in Great Britain is normally available when a participating retailer sends the goods directly to an address outside the UK.

That means a designer bag, pair of headphones or other normal retail product should not automatically be treated as “tax free” simply because you bought it at an airport.

Do Customs Allowances Still Apply?

Yes. Buying something at Heathrow does not remove the customs rules at your destination.

The amount of alcohol, tobacco or other goods you can take into another country depends on that country's rules. If you later return to Great Britain from abroad, UK personal allowances also apply to goods you bring back.

For expensive purchases or larger quantities of controlled goods, check the customs rules for your destination before buying rather than relying on the airport retailer alone.

Shopping at Heathrow Terminal 2

Terminal 2, the Queen's Terminal, covers a broad range of shopping needs, from duty-free products and designer goods to electronics and everyday travel essentials.

World Duty Free operates in Terminal 2, while Harrods, InMotion, WHSmith, Boots and Accessorize also currently have a presence in the terminal.

Duty-Free, Beauty and Fragrance at Terminal 2

Passengers looking for fragrance, skincare, cosmetics, confectionery or eligible duty-free goods can use the World Duty Free stores in Terminal 2. The current Heathrow listing includes stores in the main airside area, the B-gates area and an Arrivals location.

If you already know which product you want, checking availability online before travelling can be quicker than searching several sections of the store after security.

Electronics and Travel Essentials at Terminal 2

InMotion specialises in travel electronics and currently operates in all four Heathrow terminals. Its range includes headphones, speakers, tablets, portable power products, mobile accessories and products from brands such as Apple, Samsung, Bose, Sony and JBL.

For everyday items, WHSmith has several Heathrow locations and sells books, magazines, food, drinks and other journey essentials. Heathrow also states that prescription medicines are available from the Terminal 2 WHSmith near Gate A20.

Boots is another option in T2 for health, beauty and travel items such as sun cream, insect repellent and toiletries.

Gifts and Souvenirs at Terminal 2

Discover London is currently located in Terminal 2 Departures and focuses specifically on British and London-themed gifts. Its range includes tea, food, clothing and souvenirs.

Harrods also operates at Heathrow and can be useful for British-branded gifts, confectionery and luxury products.

Shopping at Heathrow Terminal 3

Terminal 3 combines luxury shopping with practical airport retail.

Current choices include World Duty Free, Harrods, InMotion, WHSmith, Boots, Accessorize, Case and Glorious Britain.

Fashion, Luggage and Accessories at Terminal 3

Passengers looking for travel bags and luggage can consider Case, which carries brands such as Tumi, Samsonite, Bric's and Briggs & Riley. Case currently has shops in Terminals 3, 4 and 5.

Harrods provides another option for luxury products and gifts, while Accessorize covers bags, jewellery and other fashion accessories.

Electronics, Books and Essentials at Terminal 3

InMotion covers electronics and mobile accessories, while WHSmith provides books, snacks, drinks and general travel items.

Boots currently operates both before and after security in Terminal 3, and Heathrow states that the T3 departures shop before security includes a pharmacy that fulfils prescriptions.

That can be particularly useful if you realise before security that you have forgotten an important health or travel item.

British Gifts at Terminal 3

Glorious Britain currently operates in Terminal 3 as well as T4 and T5. Its range focuses on British culture and includes tea, biscuits, chocolates, clothing, accessories and London-themed souvenirs.

Shopping at Heathrow Terminal 4

Terminal 4 also covers the main airport-shopping categories, including duty-free products, technology, fashion, luggage, books and British gifts.

Current retailers include World Duty Free, Harrods, InMotion, WHSmith, Accessorize, Case, Glorious Britain and Sunglass Hut.

Duty-Free and Beauty at Terminal 4

World Duty Free currently has Terminal 4 locations in the departure lounge as well as an Arrivals store.

If fragrance, beauty or eligible duty-free products are your main reason for shopping, checking product availability before travelling can save time.

Fashion, Luggage and Souvenirs at Terminal 4

Case provides luggage and travel accessories, while Sunglass Hut focuses on designer eyewear. Glorious Britain is useful for passengers looking for British-themed souvenirs and gifts.

Harrods and Accessorize add further fashion, accessory and gift options.

Electronics and Everyday Essentials at Terminal 4

InMotion is the main current example for electronics such as headphones, portable power and phone accessories. WHSmith provides books, food, drinks and other basic journey items.

If you need a specific medicine or health product, check the current terminal directory before travelling rather than assuming T4 has the same shops as the other terminals.

Shopping at Heathrow Terminal 5

Terminal 5 has a broad mix of duty-free, fashion, technology, luggage, watches, accessories, gifts and everyday travel shopping.

Current retailers include World Duty Free, Harrods, InMotion, Boots, WHSmith, Case, Sunglass Hut, Glorious Britain and Collection. Heathrow also currently lists a dedicated Rolex store in Terminal 5.

Luxury Fashion, Watches and Accessories at Terminal 5

Collection is a Terminal 5 store specialising in designer fashion accessories, including bags, jewellery and sunglasses.

Rolex also currently operates a T5 store for luxury watches.

Harrods, Case and Sunglass Hut add further options for gifts, luggage and fashion accessories.

Gifts and British Products at Terminal 5

Glorious Britain offers British-themed souvenirs, while Harrods stocks products including tea, biscuits, chocolates, bags and branded gifts through Heathrow's shopping service.

Fortnum & Mason products are also currently available through Heathrow shopping, with the T5 range including tea, biscuits, hampers, food and other gifts.

Heathrow Shopping Checklist Before You Buy

Before making a purchase, check:

· Terminal: Is the shop actually in T2, T3, T4 or T5?

· Location: Is it before security, after security or in Arrivals?

· Time: Do you have enough time to shop and still reach your gate?

· Customs: Can you take the product into your destination country?

· Connections: Will liquids or other items cause problems at another security checkpoint?

· Baggage: Do you have enough cabin or checked baggage space?

· Price: Compare the actual selling price rather than assuming every Heathrow purchase is cheaper.

· Collection: Would Reserve & Collect or Collect on Return be easier?

That quick check can prevent a useful purchase from becoming an airport problem.

Frequently Asked Questions about Heathrow Airport Shopping

Is there duty-free shopping at Heathrow Airport?

Yes. World Duty Free operates across Terminals 2, 3, 4 and 5 and sells products including fragrance, cosmetics, confectionery, alcohol and accessories. However, not every product sold at Heathrow is automatically tax free, so check the actual price and applicable rules before buying.

Which Heathrow terminals have shops?

Terminals 2, 3, 4 and 5 all have shopping. The exact retailers differ, although some brands such as World Duty Free, Harrods, InMotion and WHSmith currently have a presence across all four terminals.

Can I shop at Heathrow before security?

Yes, selected shops operate before security, in check-in areas or Arrivals. However, many of Heathrow's main departure shops are after security. Check the store's location in the live directory before travelling to the airport specifically to visit it.

Can I shop at Heathrow after security?

Yes. Much of Heathrow's departure shopping is located after security, including duty-free, fashion, technology and specialist retail. Your choice depends on the terminal you are flying from.

Can I reserve Heathrow shopping before my flight?

Yes. Heathrow's Reserve & Collect service lets passengers enter their flight details, browse eligible products and reserve them before travelling. Availability depends on the flight and terminal.

Can I buy from a shop in another Heathrow terminal?

Potentially, but do not try to change terminals simply to go shopping. Heathrow operates a Terminal Shopping Transfer service for eligible passengers. Current conditions include arriving at least three hours before departure and a minimum £250 purchase.

Can I leave Heathrow purchases and collect them after my trip?

Yes. Heathrow's Collect on Return service allows departing passengers to leave eligible purchases at the airport and collect them from Arrivals when they return. Duty-free alcohol and cigarettes are excluded from the service.

Can I buy electronics and chargers at Heathrow?

Yes. InMotion currently operates across all four Heathrow terminals and sells headphones, chargers, portable power, mobile accessories and other travel technology.

Can I buy London souvenirs at Heathrow?

Yes. Current options include Discover London in Terminal 2 and Glorious Britain in Terminals 3, 4 and 5. Harrods also sells British-branded gifts and confectionery at Heathrow.

Are Heathrow shops always cheaper than high-street shops?

No. Do not assume that every airport product is cheaper. Some Heathrow retailers advertise airport-specific prices or online offers, but prices depend on the product and retailer. Compare the actual price before buying rather than treating “airport” or “duty free” as an automatic saving.

Final Thoughts

Shopping at Heathrow is easiest when you start with three things: your terminal, what you need and how much time you have before boarding.

All four passenger terminals offer duty-free products, gifts, technology and travel essentials, while some terminals have additional luxury and specialist shops. If you already know what you want, Heathrow's Reserve & Collect service can save time.

Most importantly, check your gate before you start shopping and do not assume every airport purchase is automatically duty free or cheaper.

If you are also planning your journey to or from the airport, UKride offers pre-booked Heathrow Airport transfers.
